Pepper Giant Ristra – West Coast Seeds
Capsicum annuum
At 18cm (7″) long, this pepper looks like a Marconi type, but it has the legitimate heat of a cayenne chili. Use this AAS winner raw, roasted, or dried or tied into decorative ristras for fall and winter displays. 30,000 – 50,000 SHUS. 80 days, F1.
HOW TO GROW PEPPERS
Timing: Start indoors 5-8 weeks before the last frost. Start early March on the coast for transplanting in June into warm soil. Seeding: Sow seeds 1cm (12″) deep in individual cells or small pots. Use a seedling warmer to maintain a soil temperature above 20°C (68°F). Germination may take 8-18 days, depending on soil temperature and variety.
Growing: Soil should have abundant phosphorous and calcium, so add lime and compost to the bed or containers before transplanting. Mix 1/4-1/2 cup of complete organic fertilizer under each transplant. Though peppers will tolerate dry soil, they’ll only make good growth if the soil is kept moist.
