Gardener’s Notes:Â Melons need warm weather to grow. Sow in late spring after night temperatures reach 13C (55F). Seed may be started indoors 3 weeks before transplanting into the garden when seedlings have 4 leaves. When sowing outdoors, plant 4-6 seeds 1/2″ deep in a 12″ hill. Thin seedlings to strongest 3 plants. Fertilize monthly. Pick melons when nearest tendril is brown, rind is dull and underside turns yellow.Â
