Gardener’s Notes:Â Sow this warm-season crop either indoors under lights 3-4 weeks before last frost, or wait until night temperatures reach 55F (13C) and plant directly into the garden in fertile, well-drained soil. Sow 4-6 seeds in mounded 12 in. hills. When large enough to handle, thin to 3 best seedlings per hill. Water vines regularly. Harvest the oblong squash when rinds are hard & creamy yellow. Cut with 2 inches of stem. Store in a cool, dry location.
