Gardener’s Notes: Squash is a warm-season crop. Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost and transplant carefully, or plant directly outdoors in spring after the last frost. Sow 4-6 seeds in a 12-inch circle. Thin to 2-3 plants before vines spread. Water regularly. Harvest when rind is hard and skin is creamy yellow. Cut with 2 inches of stem. Store in a cool, dry location.
