Oriental Poppy – Eagleridge Seeds
Papaver Oriental
Indigenous to the Caucasus Mountains of Eurasia. The long pointed leaves emerge in early spring. They are soft green colour with tiny hairs that form a nice dense cluster. This supports multiple 2 foot stems of vivid large red cup shaped blossoms that surround a darker button center. This plant produces a tap root so doesn’t move easily once established. The foliage dies back in summer to emerge once again in the fall. Can self seed, so allow a nice space in the border for them to establish and small seedlings transplant easily. Hardy to Zone 4. Start seeds in pots in early spring, barely covered, then transplant by mid to late spring to the garden. Our thanks to Gary McNutt who captured this stunning shot on our farm in late May.
