This annual grows about 2 feet tall and is famous for its seeds. The flowers are not as ornamental as some of its relatives, but still quite attractive as a mass planting with its straight and narrow growth habit. Used for centuries in many cultures as an herbal medicine to treat inflammation of all kinds. It is an antioxidant and loaded with minerals especially iron and calcium. Also used as a delicious culinary spice, with a taste of lemony caraway, it is often dry roasted, sprinkled on steamed vegetables, on flat breads or in omelettes. Used extensively in East Indian cuisine and produces a fine oil when pressed. Easy to grow, can start in early spring in small cells sow 1/4 inch deep or sow directly in late spring. Allow the plants to dry down in summer then collect the seeds.
