Organic Woad – Metchosin Farm Seeds
Isatis tinctoria
Traditionally grown as a dye plant in Europe, woad produces a brilliant deep blue colour after processing, and only lost popularity when Indigo imports arrived from the Far East. Woad is an architectural and interesting biennial with tall plumes of bright yellow flowers maturing into distinctive and unusual black seedpods. It’s also the plant that the ancient Celts dyed themselves blue with to chase away the Romans in battle (think the movie Braveheart….)!
Proudly grown on Vancouver Island! Grown without chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers. Open Pollinated.
