Gardener’s Notes: Plant seed in late spring after temperatures stay above 50F (10C). Seed can be started indoors 2-3 weeks before planting outdoors. Small plants transplant best. Outdoors, plant in average, well-drained soil, spacing seeds 4″ apart. Thin seedlings when they are 3″ tall. Sunflowers tolerate dry conditions, but grow when watered regularly throughout the season.
