Gardener’s Notes:Â Lettuce thrives in cool weather. For continuous harvests, sow in early spring, planting every 2 weeks until summer heat arrives. In hot weather, provide some afternoon shade. Plant again at midsummer to early fall for a late crop. Keep soil evenly moist for best flavor. Thin seedlings to final spacing 8 inches apart; lettuce grows best when not crowded. Cut heads when firm and well-filled out.Â
